Athletics

The Athletics Program at St. Mark Catholic School

Athletics at St. Mark School are part of how we form students, not a break from it. Through the St. Mark Athletic Association, students in kindergarten through eighth grade compete in cross country, track, soccer, and basketball across all three seasons, playing alongside other Catholic schools in the Baltimore area. Our coaches are parents and parishioners who volunteer their time, and their job is as much about sportsmanship, effort, and looking out for teammates as it is about the scoreboard. Whether a child has played since kindergarten or is trying a sport for the first time in sixth grade, there is a place on a St. Mark team.

Soccer Program at St. Mark School

Soccer (Fall)

Soccer is our largest fall program, with St. Mark CYO teams fielded across a range of grade levels for both boys and girls. Practices begin in late summer and the season runs through the fall, with games played against neighboring parish and Catholic school teams. Younger players focus on ball control, positioning, and the basics of team play, while our middle school teams compete at a level that prepares athletes well for high school tryouts. Registration for St. Mark CYO Soccer opens each spring for the coming season.

Basketball Program at St. Mark Catholic School

Basketball (Winter)

Basketball carries our athletes through the winter months and is a long-standing tradition at St. Mark. Boys and girls teams practice and play home games in St. Mark Hall, which means families are often watching their kids compete in the same building where the school gathers all year. Teams are organized by grade level so players compete against peers, and coaches emphasize fundamentals, defense, and playing time that lets every athlete develop. The season typically begins in late fall and runs through late winter.

Cross Country and Track

Cross Country and Track (Fall and Spring)

Our running program spans two seasons and gives students a sport where personal improvement is the main measure of success. Cross country runs in the fall, with athletes training and competing on courses throughout the area, and track and field follows in the spring, opening up sprints, distance events, relays, and field events. Because runners compete against their own previous times as much as against other schools, the program tends to build confidence quickly in kids who have not found their footing in team sports. It is also one of the easiest ways for a new student to join in, since no prior experience is required.

Get Involved

All of our teams are run by volunteers, and we are always looking for coaches, assistant coaches, and team parents. Volunteers must be VIRTUS-trained through the Archdiocese of Baltimore before working with students. Registration, schedules, and team information are handled through the St. Mark Athletic Association website.
