St. Mark School is a co-ed elementary school for grades PreK 3 thru 8th Grade. History:
St. Mark has a long and storied history in the Catonsville community, with more than 135 years of Catholic education behind us. Cardinal Gibbons laid the cornerstone of the church in October 1888, and the parochial school opened its doors on September 2, 1889, staffed by the School Sisters of Notre Dame. From roughly 165 students in those early decades, the school grew steadily enough to require a second wing in 1960, giving the building the H shape families still recognize today. Kindergarten arrived in 1980, preschool in 2000, and the tradition of educating generations of Catonsville families continues.
Faculty & Staff:
Our teachers are the reason families stay at St. Mark from PreK through eighth grade. Certified in their subject areas and supported by specialists in art, music, library, technology, Spanish, and physical education, they know our students by name and adjust their instruction to the way each child learns. Many have taught here for years and have watched siblings and even second generations come through their classrooms.
School Board:
The St. Mark School Board works alongside our pastor and principal to guide the school’s long-term direction. Board members bring professional expertise from across our parish and school community and lend it to areas like strategic planning, finance, facilities, and enrollment. Their work helps ensure St. Mark remains strong, sustainable, and faithful to its mission for the families who come after us.
School Culture:
Culture at St. Mark is what students live out from morning announcements through dismissal. Prayer opens and closes each day, weekly Mass gathers us as one community, and our Values Code highlights a virtue each month so students learn what respect, honesty, and concern for others look like in practice. Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program uses the Lion as our anchor, giving every classroom, hallway, and cafeteria table the same clear expectations. The result is a school where a first grader and an eighth grader greet each other by name.
